Utada Hikaru (born January 19, 1983), also known by her fan-nickname of Hikki, is a Japanese American, third culture pop singer-songwriter, arranger and record producer. She is known internationally for her two theme song contributions to Square Enix's Kingdom Hearts video game series. With the release of six Japanese and English studio albums, one compilation album, 25 English and Japanese solo singles, and several VHS/DVD releases, she has sold a combined estimated total of 36,000,000 records in Japan, with an additional five million worldwide, making her the ninth most successful musical act according to Oricon. She has won the Nihon Golden Disk "Song of the Year" award for thirteen of her singles since 2000 and has won the Golden Disc "Pop/Rock Album of the Year" award for all four of her Japanese studio albums. In 2003 Utada Hikaru was ranked the #24 Japanese pop artist in its survey of "Top 100 Japanese pop artists" of all time by HMV, #10 in HMV's "Top 30 Best Japanese Singers of All Time" in 2006, and in 2007 sold 10 million digital ringtones and songs, making her the first artist ever to have this many digital sales in one year.
