Sexy Anne Jacqueline Hathaway | Sexy Cute BabesSexy Anne Jacqueline Hathaway | Sexy Cute Babes

Anne Jacqueline Hathaway (born November 12, 1982) is an American actress. She made her acting debut in the 1999 television series Get Real, but her first prominent role was in Disney's family comedy The Princess Diaries (2001) starring opposite Julie Andrews, which established her career. She continued to appear in family films over the next three years, and she had the lead roles in Ella Enchanted and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (both 2004).

Hathaway later ventured away from the "G-rated" image her early acting career bestowed upon her, starring in the adult-themed films Havoc and Brokeback Mountain in 2005. She later starred in The Devil Wears Prada (2006) opposite Meryl Streep and in Becoming Jane (2007), in which she portrays Jane Austen. Her most recent movie, Get Smart, in which she plays the character Agent 99, was released in June 2008 and is currently the second highest-grossing film of her career.

Her acting style has been compared to that of Judy Garland and Audrey Hepburn and she cites Hepburn as her favorite actress and Streep as her idol. People magazine named her one of 2001's breakthrough stars and in 2006 she was listed as one of the world’s 50 Most Beautiful People.

Biography

Early life and career

Hathaway was born in Brooklyn, New York, and moved to Millburn, New Jersey, when she was six years old. She is the daughter of Gerald Hathaway, a lawyer, and Kate McCauley, an actress who inspired Hathaway to follow in her footsteps. She was named after the wife of playwright William Shakespeare. She has an older brother, Michael, and a younger brother, Thomas. Hathaway has mainly Irish and French ancestry, with more distant German and Native American roots.

Hathaway was raised a Catholic with what she considered "really strong values," and has stated she wanted to be a nun during her childhood. However, at the age of fifteen she decided not to become a nun after learning that her brother Michael was gay. Despite her Catholic upbringing, she felt that she could not be part of a religion that disapproved of her brother's sexual orientation. She has stated that she is a non-denominational Christian. As a teenager, she actually spent many of her summers going to a Christian camp called Camp Johnsonburg, also known as the Johnsonburg Presbyterian Center.

Hathaway was raised in Millburn, New Jersey. A very intelligent child, she was involved in a Montessori program as a preschooler and was then able to enter first grade when she was technically still a kindergartener. Hathaway graduated from Millburn High School where she participated in many school plays. Hathaway's high school performance as Winifred in "Once Upon a Mattress" garnered her the New Jersey Rising Star Award nomination for best performance by a high school actress She spent several semesters studying at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York before transferring to New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study. Hathaway was an English major with a minor in Women's Studies, and while attending Vassar participated in the school's all-female a capella singing group Measure 4 Measure. She referred to her college enrollment as one of her best decisions because she enjoyed being with others who were trying to "grow up."Hathaway was a member of the Barrow Group Theater Company's acting program and was the first teenager ever admitted into the program. She is a trained stage actress and has stated that she prefers appearing on stage to film roles.

A soprano, Hathaway performed twice in 1998 with the All Eastern U.S. High School Honors Chorus at Carnegie Hall and has performed in plays at Seton Hall Prep in West Orange. Three days after performing at Carnegie Hall, she was cast in the short-lived 1999 television series Get Real.

1999–2004: Career development
Hathaway made her film debut in the Garry Marshall-directed The Princess Diaries (2001). It was generally well received by critics.
Hathaway made her film debut in the Garry Marshall-directed The Princess Diaries (2001). It was generally well received by critics.

Hathaway starred in the 1999 FOX television series Get Real for one season, after which it was canceled. Her first filmed role in a motion picture was as Jean Sabin in The Other Side of Heaven (2001) opposite Christopher Gorham. Before production of Heaven began in New Zealand, she auditioned for the lead role of Mia Thermopolis in the Garry Marshall-directed The Princess Diaries (2001). Hathaway auditioned for the role during a flight layover on the way to New Zealand and won the role after only one audition. Marshall claimed that he loved her immediately because she fell off her chair during the audition and believed her clumsiness would make her perfect for the role. (However, in a 2008 conversation with Steve Carell, Hathaway denied that she fell during this audition, although she openly admits to being a "clutz".) The Princess Diaries was released before The Other Side of Heaven in the hopes that its success would increase interest in Heaven. Across the world, The Princess Diaries was a commercial success and a sequel was planned shortly after. Many critics praised Hathaway's performance in Diaries; a BBC critic noted that "Hathaway shines in the title role and generates great chemistry."The Other Side of Heaven was received weakly by critics, but it performed well for a religious-themed film.

In February 2002, Hathaway made her Broadway debut opposite Brian Mitchell in the City Center Encores! production of Carnival! She received positive reviews for her portrayal of Lili; the role demanded both acting and singing and was a continuation of her success as a comic actress.

Hathaway continued to appear in family-oriented films over the next three years and subsequently became known in mainstream media as a children's role model. In 2002, she appeared in Nicholas Nickleby (2002) opposite Charlie Hunnam and Jamie Bell, which opened to positive reviews; the Northwest Herald referred to it as "an unbelievably fun film"and the Deseret News said that the cast was "Oscar-worthy." Despite critical acclaim, the film never entered wide release and failed at the North American box office, totaling less than US$4 million in ticket sales.

Hathaway's next film role was as the titular character in Ella Enchanted (2004), the film adaptation of the award-winning novel, which opened to mostly indifferent reviews. Hathaway sang two songs in the film as well as two on the soundtrack, subsequently prompting questions of whether she planned to release an album in the future, to which Hathaway jokingly responded, "I have no desire for world domination through the pop charts."

In 2004 Hathaway was set to star opposite Gerard Butler in The Phantom of the Opera, but was forced to turn down the role due to the movie having a production schedule that overlapped with that of The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, which she was contractually obligated to make. Disney began production on The Princess Diaries 2 in early 2004 and it was released in August of that year. The film opened to negative reviews and peaked higher at the box office than its predecessor, but ended with lower ticket sales.

2005–present: Career transition
Hathaway's career moved in a less comedic direction with her role in Brokeback Mountain (2005).
Hathaway's career moved in a less comedic direction with her role in Brokeback Mountain (2005).

Hathaway began appearing in more dramatic roles after The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. She said that "anybody who was a role model for children needs a reprieve", although she also noted that "it's lovely to think that my audience is growing up with me", a reference to her previous status as a children's actress. She voiced a version of Little Red Riding Hood in Hoodwinked! (2005), which received generally mixed reviews. That same year, Hathaway was cast in the R-rated Havoc (2005), in which she played a spoiled socialite. In a surprise move, Hathaway was featured in several nude and sexual scenes throughout the film. Despite the content of the movie being radically different from her previous films, Hathaway has denied that her role in the film was a blatant attempt to be seen as more of an adult actress, citing her belief that doing nudity in certain movies is merely a part of what her chosen form of art demands of her, and because of that belief she does not consider appearing nude in the appropriate films to be morally objectionable.

After Havoc, she appeared in the drama Brokeback Mountain (2005), opposite Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, in a role that further displayed a more serious side of Hathaway. Havoc was not released in theaters in the United States (but was later released in other countries) because of its weak critical reception, but Brokeback Mountain won rave reviews for its depiction of a homosexual relationship in the 1960s, and received several Academy Award nominations. Hathaway would later assert that the content of Brokeback Mountain was more important than its award count and also stated that making the film made her more aware of the kind of stories she wanted to tell as an actress.

Hathaway's next film was The Devil Wears Prada (2006), in which she starred as an assistant to a powerful fashion magazine editor (Meryl Streep, whom Hathaway described as being "just divine"). Hathaway said that working on the film earned her respect in the fashion industry, but she claims that her personal style is something she "can't get right" and instead prefers "doing the things she loves."

In an interview with Us Weekly, Hathaway spoke about her weight loss for the film. "I basically stuck with fruit, vegetables and fish (to slim down for the movie). I wouldn’t recommend that. Emily Blunt and I would clutch at each other and cry because we were so hungry."

Hathaway was initially cast in the 2007 comedy Knocked Up but dropped out before filming began and was replaced by Katherine Heigl. Writer/director Judd Apatow stated in a May 2007 issue of The New York Times Magazine that Hathaway dropped out "because she didn't want to allow us to use real footage of a woman giving birth to create the illusion that she is giving birth." In an August 2008 interview with Marie Claire magazine, Hathaway commented, "I turned down another movie [Knocked Up] because it was going to show a vagina — not mine, but somebody else's — and I didn't believe that it was necessary to the story."

Hathaway was next seen in Becoming Jane, released in mid-2007, in which she stars as English writer Jane Austen.

Tim Burton considered Hathaway for the part of Johanna in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, but in the end the role was given to Jayne Wisener, a then-unknown actress, reportedly because Burton decided he wanted an unknown actress for the part.

Hathaway's first film of 2008 was a modern adaptation of the 1960s Mel Brooks television series "Get Smart", in which she starred opposite Steve Carell, Dwayne Johnson, and Alan Arkin. The film was a hit at the box office and received mostly positive reviews, prompting talk of a sequel. She also made a cameo appearance in the spin-off film Get Smart's Bruce and Lloyd: Out of Control. In October 2008 she will star in the drama Passengers, alongside Patrick Wilson. She has recently completed the drama "Rachel Getting Married," opposite Debra Winger. The film premiered at the 2008 Venice Film Festival to wide acclaim. Hathaway's dark role as a recovering drug addict has already generated Oscar buzz, with the Hollywood Reporter declaring, "An award-worthy Anne Hathaway gives the story a clear central focus." Rival trade publication Variety called her "fragile, angry, superb". She has also finished filming the comedy Bride Wars, in which she will star with Kate Hudson. The film is scheduled to be released on January 9, 2009.

It was announced in January 2008 that Hathaway would be joining beauty giant, Lancôme, as the face of their newest fragrance to be launched in September 2008. She recently completed an ad for the company as the new face of Magnifique.

Personal life

Hathaway enjoys interior design and reading as pastimes. She has cited Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged as her favorite novels, as well as Jane Austen's Persuasion Hathaway is a firm believer in education and has stated that if she were a princess like her breakthrough character, she would "make it mandatory that all six-year-olds know how to read." Hathaway enjoys music and has stated that she is a fan of a wide variety of music, from Judy Garland to Rilo Kiley to Blonde Redhead. Perhaps most of all, Anne Hathaway has a strong love of film and has credited the 1958 film Auntie Mame starring Rosalind Russell with her decision to become a professional actress. Hathaway calls Audrey Hepburn, Meryl Streep, and Julia Roberts her favorite movie stars, and says even she is easily starstruck. She is also a self-proclaimed Steve Carrell fan and adores TV's The Office'.

Anne Hathaway was a vegetarian for many years.

She has stated that she isn't in the entertainment industry to be famous, but simply because she loves to create.

In early 2007, Hathaway spoke of her experiences with depression during her teenage years, and said that she eventually overcame the disorder without medication.

In regard to personal strife and subsequent media attention, Hathaway's self-subscribed mantra is a quote by Oscar Wilde: "The less said about life's sores the better."

Hathaway has stated that not much is stated about her personal life because she has problems being open in interviews, but is "learning."

Hathaway is involved with the Lolipop Theater Network, a program that screens films to critically-ill children. In 2008, she hosted a special screening of Get Smart for teenagers, and has also shown The Devil Wears Prada. She is also involved with St. Jude events, as well as the Human Rights Campaign and the StepUp Women's Network.

In 2004, Hathaway began a relationship with Italian real estate developer Raffaello Follieri. During their relationship, Hathaway took part in the development of the charitable Follieri Foundation, serving as a financial donor as well as a member of the foundation's board of directors for an undisclosed amount of time. A Manhattan-based charity founded in 2003 focusing on programs such as providing vaccinations for children in Third-World nations, the organization had come under investigation in early June 2008 by the IRS, reportedly for failing to file tax papers required from non-profit organizations. Citing the fear that this and other ongoing legal issues involving Follieri would inevitably become detrimental to her acting career, as well as for her own ethical reasons, Hathaway ended her relationship with Follieri in mid-June 2008.

On June 24, 2008, Follieri was arrested on fraud charges for allegedly fleecing investors out of millions of dollars in a scheme involving purchasing Catholic properties in the U.S. for re-development. The FBI alleged that he posed as a financial representative of the Vatican and had duped people into investing in his fraudulent fund as recently as May 2008. Court papers state that Hathaway was an unwitting beneficiary of the stolen money which had in large part paid for Follieri's opulent lifestyle of jet-setting, shopping sprees and fine dining. On July 24, 2008, it was reported that the FBI had confiscated Hathaway's private journals from Follieri's New York City apartment as part of their ongoing investigation into Follieri's activities.

Currently, Hathaway is not facing any charges in regards to the allegations brought against either Follieri or the Follieri Foundation, and has reportedly cut off all contact with him.

For the October 2008 issue of W. Magazine, Hathaway spoke for the first time of the break-up. She related that she "spent a week in shock" after the arrest of Follieri, and credited the kindness of friends to her ability to keep working during such difficult times.

Margaret Ruth "Maggie" Gyllenhaal (born November 16, 1977) is an American actress. She is the daughter of director Stephen Gyllenhaal and screenwriter Naomi Foner Gyllenhaal, and the older sister of Jake Gyllenhaal. Gyllenhaal began her acting career in a film directed by her father, and later achieved recognition in her own right playing her real brother's on-screen sister in Donnie Darko. She made her break-through in the sadomasochistic romance Secretary, for which she received critical acclaim and a Golden Globe nomination. Gyllenhaal has chosen an eclectic range of roles, from indie films such as Sherrybaby, for which she was also nominated for a Golden Globe, to the romantic comedy Trust the Man and big-budget studio films such as World Trade Center and The Dark Knight.

Gyllenhaal is a politically active Democrat and, like her brother and parents, supports the American Civil Liberties Union. She participated in anti-war demonstrations prior to the US-led invasion of Iraq and achieved some notoriety for being quoted as saying U.S. government was "responsible in some way" for the 9/11 attacks.

Biography

Early life

Gyllenhaal was born in New York City, the daughter of film director Stephen Gyllenhaal and film producer and screen-writer Naomi Achs. Jake Gyllenhaal, her brother, is also an actor. Gyllenhaal's father was raised in the Swedenborgian religion and is a descendant of the Swedish noble Gyllenhaal family; her last Swedish ancestor was her great-great-grandfather, Anders Leonard Gyllenhaal. Her mother is from a Jewish family in New York City , and is the ex-wife of Eric Foner, a history professor at Columbia University.

Gyllenhaal grew up in Los Angeles and graduated from the Harvard-Westlake prep school. While there, she attended a semester away program in Vershire, Vermont called The Mountain School. She graduated from Columbia University in 1999 with a B.A. in literature and Eastern religions and spent a summer studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Career

Gyllenhaal's first film roles were directed by her father: Waterland (1992), her feature film debut, A Dangerous Woman (1993), and Homegrown (1998); the latter two also featured her brother. After graduating from college, she had a number of supporting roles, in such films as 40 Days and 40 Nights, Riding in Cars with Boys, and Cecil B. Demented. Paper magazine has described these roles, including her casting as Donnie Darko's sister opposite real-life brother Jake, as "the girl you're not supposed to notice".

Gyllenhaal's break-out role was in the black comedy Secretary (2002), a film about two people who embark on a mutually fulfilling BDSM lifestyle. The film earned Gyllenhaal widely-spread acclaim including a Golden Globe nomination, and marked the first time Gyllenhaal performed full frontal nudity on camera. Although impressed with the script, Gyllenhaal initially had some qualms about doing the film, which she believed could deliver an antifeminist message. Yet after carefully discussing the script with the film's director, Steven Shainberg, she agreed to join the project. Although insisting Shainberg did not exploit her, Gyllenhaal has said she felt "slightly taken advantage of" and in agreeing to do certain scenes she "conceded in a way that maybe in retrospect I wish I hadn't."

In 2003, Gyllenhaal then had a series of supporting roles in films such as the Spike Jonze/Charlie Kaufman comedy Adaptation., and Mona Lisa Smile starring Julia Roberts. She also appeared in smaller independent films such as John Sayles' Casa de los Babys, and Criminal with John C. Reilly and Diego Luna. Another notable appearance was in Happy Endings in which she played a singer. She further recorded songs for the movie's soundtrack. The following year, Gyllenhaal was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She also played a love interest of Harold Crick, played by Will Ferrell, in Stranger than Fiction.

Gyllenhaal has also appeared in theatre. She starred as Alice in the Mark Taper Forum production of Patrick Marber's Closer, and performed at the Taper in a production of Tony Kushner's Homebody/ Kabul. Kushner gave Gyllenhaal the role in Homebody/ Kabul on the strength of her performance in Closer. Gyllenhaal shot a commercial for Rock the Vote, and along with her brother Jake Gyllenhaal, visited the University of Southern California to encourage students to vote during the 2004 U.S. Election. Besides acting, she has modeled for Miu Miu, Reebok, and Agent Provocateur, and recorded the first unabridged audiobook version of Sylvia Plath's novel, The Bell Jar.

In 2008, Gyllenhaal was also set to play "Suky" in The Private Lives of Pippa Lee but pulled out before filming began. She has been replaced by Maria Bello. She appeared in The Dark Knight, the sequel to Batman Begins, in which she replaced Katie Holmes as Assistant District Attorney, Rachel Dawes. In the IGN review of the film, critic Todd Gilchrist wrote: "Meanwhile taking over for Katie Holmes, Gyllenhaal adds real depth and energy to Rachel Dawes, showing how her feelings for Bruce Wayne aren't simply unrequited, but actually based in both sincere affection and common sense."

Personal life

Gyllenhaal has been in a relationship with actor Peter Sarsgaard since 2002. They announced their engagement in April 2006. They have a daughter, Ramona, born on October 4, 2006, and reside in Brooklyn, New York. Sarsgaard is close friends with Gyllenhaal's brother Jake.

In November 2007, Gyllenhaal volunteered to help raise funds for TrickleUp.org, a non-profit organization that helps people take the first steps out of poverty by helping them start a micro-enterprise. In the latest fundraising campaign, Gyllenhaal helped design and promote a necklace that sells for $100, with all proceeds going to the charity.

Controversy

Gyllenhaal drew fire for a comment made during an interview with NY1 at the 2005 Tribeca Film Festival where she suggested that the United States was somewhat responsible for the September 11, 2001 attacks. She remarked, "I think America has done reprehensible things and is responsible in some way..." In response to the criticism, she issued a statement saying that 9/11 was "an occasion to be brave enough to ask some serious questions about America's role in the world" and that it was "useful as individuals or nations to ask how we may have knowingly or unknowingly contributed to this conflict." She pointedly denied saying that the 9/11 attacks were deserved. Gyllenhaal later said that she regretted her comments, and asserted that film interviews were not the "right place" to discuss politics. Gyllenhaal also said that she had "nothing but gratitude and admiration" for firefighters and that she should have "been more gentle and more thoughtful" in her comments.

Gyllenhaal eventually met with Port Authority officer Will Jimeno and his wife, Allison, whom Gyllenhaal depicted in the 2006 film World Trade Center. She said she would have left the project if the Jimenos wanted, but Allison Jimeno expressed that she and her husband were comfortable with her and "had no problem with her in [the] movie."

Tiffani Thiessen (born Tiffani Amber Thiessen on January 23, 1974 in Long Beach, California) is an American actress known for her roles as Kelly Kapowski in Saved by the Bell and as Valerie Malone in Beverly Hills, 90210. After many years of going by her full name, she is now credited as simply Tiffani Thiessen.

Biography

Early life

She was born in Long Beach, California; her father, Frank, was a park designer and her mother, Robyn, was a homemaker. She is of German, Greek, and Welsh descent. She told InStyle: "I'm a mutt. I have so much of everything in me, and half of it I don't even know. German on one side, Greek, Turkish and Welsh on the other. My mom is very olive-skinned; I get my blue eyes from my dad."She credits her brother, Todd, as one of her most important sources of inspiration, and her mother and grandmother as her role models. Her uncle, Roger Ernest, who attended college with Steven Spielberg and co-wrote one of his student films called Slipstream, and who appeared in Close Encounters of the Third Kind and The Sugarland Express playing a cop in both films, was the person who had first suggested that his niece enter show business.

Career

After a childhood of beauty pageants, Tiffani Amber Theissen was crowned Miss Junior America in 1987 and won Teen Magazine's Great Model Search in 1988, gracing the cover of that issue. A year later, her first big break in show business was her role on the television program Saved By The Bell, which was publicized and given a great deal of fanfare by the same magazine. She portrayed Kelly Kapowski, a role she continued playing in the short lived Saved by the Bell: The College Years. This was very different from her next major role, as a duplicitous vixen, Valerie Malone, on Beverly Hills, 90210.

She later guest-starred in the sitcom Two Guys and a Girl and the short-lived action show Fastlane, as well as guest-starring on Just Shoot Me!. Her transition to film has not gone well so far, as most of her movies have been critically panned. In 2002, she appeared in the film Hollywood Ending directed by Woody Allen.

In 2005, she released a short (21 minute) film she had directed called Just Pray. It placed at several film festivals and was the first major effort from her new production company, Tit 4 Tat Productions.

In January 2007 Thiessen joined the cast of ABC's relationship drama What About Brian, playing the boss of Brian, and a potential love interest for Adam. However, in May 2007 ABC officially canceled the series.

During her Saved By The Bell and Beverly Hills, 90210 career she dated her co-stars Mark Paul Gosselaar and actor Brian Austin Green for about 7 years.

In March of 1999, her then-boyfriend, actor David Strickland, committed suicide. From October 2001 to April 2003, she was engaged to actor Richard Ruccolo, whom she had met during the Two Guys and a Girl run. On July 9, 2005, she married actor Brady Smith in Montecito, California.

Thiessen is a part of the Make-a-Wish Foundation. In February 2006, she accepted an invitation to serve on the National Advisory Council for the organization.

Danielle Jane Minogue (born October 20, 1971), known as Dannii, is an Autralian singer, songwriter, television personality and occasional actress, model and fashion designer. Minogue rose to prominence in the early 1980s for her roles in the Australian television talent show Young Talent Time and in the long-running Australian soap Home and Away, before commencing her career as a pop star in the early 1990s. She is the sister of Kylie Minogue.

Minogue achieved early success with hits such as "Love and Kisses" and "This Is It", though by the release of her second album, her popularity as a singer had declined, leading her to concentrate on other fields such as television presenting. The late 1990s saw a brief return to music after Minogue reinvented herself as a dance artist with "All I Wanna Do", her first number one UK Club hit. In 2001, Minogue further returned to musical success with the release of her biggest worldwide hit to date, "Who Do You Love Now?", while her subsequent album, Neon Nights, became the most successful of her career. In the UK, she has achieved eleven number one dance singles, becoming the best performing artist on the UK Upfront Club Chart. Minogue is currently signed to All Around the World and, in 2006, released her second official "best of" compilation, The Hits and Beyond. In 2007, Minogue became a talent judge on Australia's Got Talent and The X Factor.

Minogue's private life, including her marriage to Australian actor Julian McMahon and engagement to both Canadian Formula One world champion driver Jacques Villeneuve and former Bros band member Craig Logan, has been much discussed in the media. She has promoted gay rights causes throughout the world, and is noted for her work to increase awareness of AIDS.

Biography

Childhood and beginning

Minogue was born in Melbourne, Australia, to accountant Ron Minogue and dancer Carol Jones. Minogue's father was born in Australia but his family comes from County Clare, Ireland and her mother emigrated to Townsville, Queensland as a young child from Maesteg, Wales in 1955. She is the youngest of three children. Her sister, Kylie, is a pop singer and actress, and her brother, Brendan Minogue, works as a news cameraman in Australia. It was during the years on YTT that Minogue developed her work ethic, Johnny Young, the shows host, would later describe Minogue as the hardest working of the 40 children in the shows 18 year history. In 1988, Minogue retired from Young Talent Time and appeared in acting roles in the mini series "all the way" for the nine network and as the rebellious teenager Emma Jackson on the soap opera Home and Away. Minogue remained on the programme for only a year, but proved to be popular among Australian audiences when she was nominated for a "Silver Logie" for the country's "Most Popular Actress on Australian television".

In September 1988, Minogue released her own fashion range entitled Dannii. She became interested in fashion design while appearing on Young Talent Time. Minogue had designed the clothing she had worn on the show, and the positive response from the audience resulted in her releasing her own line. Minogue's debut line, Dannii, sold out across Australia in ten days, and was followed by three additional summer lines in 1989.

1990–1995: Early career

Minogue signed a recording contract with Australian-based Mushroom Records in January 1989. Her first album, Dannii, was released the following year and reached number twenty-four on the Australian albums chart. Outside Australia, the album was released in 1991, under the title Love and Kisses, and became a top ten hit. Minogue's debut single "Love and Kisses" peaked at number four on the Australian singles chart and was certified gold. In the UK, the song reached the top ten on the singles chart.

She released Love and Kisses and..., a re-worked version of her debut album, in April 1992. The album, a collection of dance songs, comprised tracks and remixes from Love and Kisses. It peaked at number forty-two on the UK albums chart, and sold nearly 60,000 copies. Several remixes by producer and DJ Steve "Silk" Hurley were successful in European dance clubs. Minogue credits these remixes for providing her with a "new image and sound to work with" on future releases.

Later that year, Minogue made her feature film debut in Secrets, which co-starred Noah Taylor. The film revolved around five Australian teenagers who become stuck in the basement of a hotel in an attempt to see The Beatles. The film was not well received by audiences or critics, with Minogue's performance being described as "not all that convincing".

Minogue released her second album Get into You—which included the songs "Show You the Way to Go", "This Is It" and "This Is the Way"—in October 1993. The album contained uptempo dance tracks and mature vocals, but despite her past chart success, failed to make the British top fifty. The following year, Minogue returned to television as a presenter, co-hosting Channel 4's morning show The Big Breakfast in the UK.

In 1995, Minogue released the singles "Rescue Me" and "Boogie Woogie", a collaboration with dance act Eurogroove. Released only in Japan, both songs reached number one on the Japanese singles chart. She began recording her third album in 1995; however, Minogue and her record label, Mushroom Records, parted ways in late 1995 following a contract disagreement.

In December 1995, Minogue guested with a host of pop stars, including Boyzone, Backstreet Boys, Deuce and others, on the UK charity single "The Gift of Christmas". This was released to raise money for Childline and indeed was credited to 'Childliners'. The song reached number 9 on the UK charts over the festive period, and Minogue performed the track alongside the other artists on Top of the Pops.

1996–2001: Girl, presenting, and theatre

In 1996, she resumed her co-hosting duties on The Big Breakfast, presenting the Eggs on Legs road show segment. That same year, Minogue briefly hosted the children's show Disney Time and co-hosted, with Gareth Jones, the teenage Saturday morning entertainment show It's Not Just Saturday for sixteen weeks. Minogue made her stage debut in April 1997 as Rizzo in the musical Grease: The Arena Spectacular. In Australia, the show sold over 450,000 tickets during its first season. She resumed her role as Rizzo the following year, performing in New Zealand. At the 1998 MO Awards, Minogue was nominated for "Best Female Musical Theater Performer" for her role. Also in 1997, Minogue hosted Top of the Pops, a British music chart television programme, before returning to her recording career later that year.

Minogue's interest in dance music and clubbing heavily influenced her third album Girl, released in September 1997, which featured collaborations with musicians such as Brian Higgins of Xenomania. The album presented a more sophisticated and adult style of dance music, but despite generally positive reviews, failed to make the British top fifty, although the Unleashed Tour in late 1998 sold out in Britain. Minogue's single "All I Wanna Do", which the Daily Mirror described as a "bass-bumping, shuddering return", peaked at number four on the UK singles chart and was certified gold in Australia. The album's follow-up singles, "Everything I Wanted" and "Disremembrance", failed to reached the top ten, but reached number one on the UK dance chart.

Mushroom Records released two budget compilation albums in December 1998, as part of the label's twenty-fifth anniversary. Released only in Australia, The Singles comprised Minogue's most popular single releases, while The Remixes contained popular remixes. In January 1999, following her performance at the 1998 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, Minogue released the festival's first official theme song, "Everlasting Night". It appeared on the compilation CD Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras of 1999, and its music video, co-directed by Minogue, featured drag queens whom she had met while performing at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras the previous year. The video was included on Minogue's video compilation The Videos

Minogue returned to the theater in the 1999 production of Shakespeare's Macbeth at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The play received mixed reviews; critic Matt Grant wrote that Minogue "lacks true conviction as she ploughs through the lines without capturing their full force", while Fiachra Gibbons singled Minogue's performance out, noting in her review that Minogue's "disco-queen-from-hell delivery works well" for her character, Lady Macbeth. Two years later, she appeared as Esmeralda in the musical production of Notre-Dame de Paris in London's West End. The musical received poor reviews from British critics who called it "lame" and its songs "reminiscent of [the] Eurovision song contest". At the 2002 Maxim Awards, she won "Best Stage Performance" for her role. In 2001, Minogue also appeared in the stage play The Vagina Monologues, which co-starred Kika Markham and Meera Syal.

In November 2001, Minogue released the single "Who Do You Love Now?", a collaboration with Dutch dance act Riva. Described by Sound Generator as a "nice serene and dreamy vocal on the dance floor anthem", the song peaked at number three on the UK singles chart, and reached number one on the dance charts. In the United States, the song was released to dance clubs, and reached number one on the Billboard Dance Club chart. In 2001, Minogue signed a six album deal with London Records, a subsidiary of Warner Music International.

2002–2004: Neon Nights and radio programme

In 2002, Minogue made headlines when the British National Party, a far right and anti-immigration political party, claimed that she supported their cause following comments she had made in an interview with Britain's GQ magazine. In the interview, Minogue was quoted saying that French National Front leader Jean-Marie Le Pen had "struck a chord with people", and that "even the street signs [in Australia] are written in Asian".

In March 2003, Minogue released her fourth album, Neon Nights, which the BBC called "a pleasant cocktail of pop sophistication, club culture and accessibility". It consisted of 1980s inspired dance-pop songs and provided Minogue with some of the strongest reviews of her career. Neon Nights peaked at number eight on the UK albums chart (her highest ranking since her debut), and produced three top ten singles. The second single, "I Begin to Wonder", declared one of the "best things" on the album by Ireland's RTÉ, became her highest charting single, peaking at number two on the UK singles chart. Following extensive airplay by North American dance radio, Warner Music Group released the album in the United States in late 2003. Singles "I Begin to Wonder" and "Don't Wanna Lose This Feeling" were also substantial successes on the U.S. dance charts.

Minogue hosted her own radio programme, Dannii Minogue's Neon Nights, in June 2003. Broadcast in Australia and the UK, Minogue played songs by up-and-coming DJs, as well as her own music. Minogue was released from her recording contract with London Records in May 2004 due to not selling enough albums to justify a new deal with the company. Later that year she signed a new contract with independent dance label All Around the World Records.

In October 2004, Minogue released the single "You Won't Forget About Me", a collaboration with dance act Flower Power. Described by MSN Entertainment as a "real grower" and noted for its "snip snapping house beats and '80s flecked synths", the song peaked at number seven on the UK singles chart and became Minogue's third single to reach the top five on the United States Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.

"I Can't Sleep at Night" was intended to follow in August 2005 but was shelved in favour of "Perfection", a collaboration with the Soul Seekerz which was eventually released at the end of November 2005. It made number 11 in the UK and 13 in Australia.

In February 2006, Minogue made headlines when surveillance tape stills from London strip club Puss 'N Boots were published by News of the World, a British tabloid newspaper, showing Minogue and a female lap dancer in full-contact sexual activity. A spokesman for Minogue downplayed the event and called it a "harmless girls' night out". Minogue later commented "I'm entirely straight - it was just a bit of fun."

Later that year, Minogue released The Hits & Beyond, her first official greatest hits album. Minogue had previously ended her 4 album contract in Australia with a Singles collection only available in her home country but many of her avid, worldwide fans were able to purchase the album through import. Her first official greatest hits album comprised six new songs, including the album's lead single "So Under Pressure" which became her 14th Top 20 hit in the UK. The album debuted at number seventeen on the UK albums chart and only fell to number 24 the week after.

"So Under Pressure" was inspired by the cancer diagnoses of her sister Kylie Minogue. It became her tenth song to reach number one on the UK Upfront Club chart. Minogue has described the recording of "So Under Pressure" as a "real achievement" as she was "brave enough to put all [her feelings] into words". In September 2006, Roselyn approached Dannii and said... lets do a Christmas song. Minogue's cover of "I'll Be Home for Christmas" appeared on Spirit of Christmas, a compilation CD of holiday songs available through Myer department stores across Australia.

In November 2006, Minogue performed Sister Sledge's 1979 song "He's the Greatest Dancer" on BBC One's Children in Need telethon. A studio version of the song, remixed by Fugitive, appeared on the dance compilation Clubland 10, released in November 2006. The following month, "He's the Greatest Dancer" was released to UK dance clubs as a promotional single. It reached number one on the Upfront Club chart. The single was given an Australian only release in April 2007.

2007: television and return to music

In 2007, Minogue was a judge on the Network 7's variety show Australia's Got Talent. She also appeared as a judge and mentor in the fourth series of ITV's music talent show, The X Factor, alongside Simon Cowell, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh. It was revealed on September 29 that she would be mentoring the boys category during the show. She chose Leon Jackson, Rhydian Roberts and Andy Williams to represent her in the live rounds of the competition. Since her appearances as a judge on the talent show, Minogue has commented "I've finally been accepted as me. It's a fantastic opportunity, for once, not to be compared with Kylie. At last, I've found my own slot."Despite heavy criticism about her credentials to be a judge, 2 of her chosen acts, Rhydian Roberts and Leon Jackson, became the final two, with Jackson eventually becoming the winner on December 15 after winning the public vote. Her success on the show has led to her considering a career as a music manager.

October onwards saw a total of five releases from Minogue; first, on October 29, reissues of her 1997 and 2003 albums Girl and Neon Nights, each containing a double-disc, the second disc of which includes remixes. On November 5 Minogue released Unleashed, a collection of previously unheard material from her time with London Records, and The Video Collection, which includes every one of her music videos as well as bonus features. Finally, on December 3, a new single was released, entitled "Touch Me Like That". The song is to be credited as Dannii Minogue vs Jason Nevins, and received its premiere on BBC Radio 1 on the Scott Mills Show, on the morning of October 3.

"Touch Me Like That" was made available to purchase digitally, one week ahead of its physical CD release (November 26, 2007). The single eventually hit the UK singles chart at a diasappointing #48.

Minogue released digital album Club Disco on November 5, 2007. The album includes several previously released singles, such as "You Won't Forget About Me", "Perfection" and "So Under Pressure". Also included is cancelled single "I Can't Sleep At Night" and a cover of the disco classic "He's The Greatest Dancer". The album has another cover, a chilled out version of "Xanadu". Club Disco peaked at Number 2 on the UK Dance albums chart.

2008

In 2008, Club Disco was physically released as a double album in Australia. "Touch Me Like That" was added to the tracklisting while "Do you believe me now?" was removed from the album. The second disc featured selected remixes from the album singles.

In April 2008, Minogue was hired as the headline performer, Australian Fashion Week. In particular she was booked to make an appearance as the opening party hosted by MAC Cosmetics.

Following the cancelled release of the "Xanadu" single in June, 2008, it has been confirmed that Minogue will indeed begin the recording of her next studio album with producer Anthony Asher and Freemasons. It's described as "a blast of pop and dance", the album will be the next after "Club Disco" in 2007 to endure a full commercial release. The album is due for release in early to mid-2009.

Dannii also returned to British television in August 2008 as a judge on The X Factor, alongside Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Cheryl Cole who replaced Sharon Osbourne. She has had a role created for her by writer producer Ben Trebilcook in the new British spy movie Vauxall Crossed. She is set to play MI6 Agent Rio Ruse opposite British actor Hugo Speer.

On September 02, 2008 it was announced that Dannii is to host the Nickelodeon UK Kids' Choice Awards 2008 ceremony this year.

Personal life

Relationships

In January 1994, Minogue married Australian actor Julian McMahon, the only son of former Australian prime minister Sir William McMahon, whom she met in 1991 while working on the television series Home and Away. Minogue and McMahon were married for less than two years and divorced in 1995. Referring to the divorce, Minogue said that it was her "biggest regret and biggest downfall". In October 1995, she posed nude in the Australian edition of Playboy magazine. Commenting on the reason she posed nude, Minogue said she "just had a marriage break-up. Most women go to the hairdressers - I did Playboy. I chose the photographer, the location, what I did or didn't want to wear and everything else about the pictures. I found it a really liberating, empowering experience."The edition featuring Minogue sold out in under four days and became one of the best-selling editions in Australia.

Minogue became engaged to Canadian Formula One driver Jacques Villeneuve in October 1999, but their relationship ended in 2001. In early 2002, Minogue began dating music producer and Bros bassist Craig Logan, whom she met while recording material for Neon Nights. Media reports in March 2002 claimed Minogue and Logan were engaged, but in December 2002, it was announced that they had ended their relationship.

Media portrayal and other activities

Amy Lou Adams (born August 20, 1974) is an American actress. She is best known for playing characters with cheerful and sunny dispositions such as her Academy Award-nominated role as Ashley Johnsten in Junebug and her Golden Globe Award-nominated role as Giselle in Enchanted.

Early life

Amy Adams was born in Aviano, Italy, but grew up in Vicenza, Italy, the daughter of American parents Kathryn and Richard Adams, who was a U.S. serviceman stationed in Italy. She grew up as one of seven children in Castle Rock, Colorado and was raised in the Mormon religion, although her family left the church after Adams' parents divorced when she was 11 years old. Throughout her years at Douglas County High School, she sang in the school choir and trained as an apprentice at a local dance company with ambitions of becoming a ballerina. However, after graduating from high school, she decided that she was "never going to be that good [at ballet], no matter how hard [she] work[ed]" and entered musical theater, which she found was "much better suited to [her] personality".

Career

Early career

To support herself while performing in community theater, Adams worked at Gap as a greeter and at Hooters as a hostess and a waitress, a fact that became her "entire press career for a while". She began working professionally as a dancer at Boulder's Dinner Theatre and Country Dinner Playhouse, where she was spotted by a Minneapolis dinner theatre director, Michael Brindisi. Along with her family, Adams moved to Chanhassen, Minnesota, where she continued to work at Chanhassen Dinner Theatres. While she was off work nursing a pulled muscle, Adams auditioned for the satirical 1999 comedy Drop Dead Gorgeous, which was being filmed in Minnesota, and was cast in her first film role. Persuaded by her Drop Dead Gorgeous co-star, Kirstie Alley, Adams moved to Los Angeles, California in 1998. Shortly after, she was cast in Fox Network's television series spin-off of Cruel Intentions, Manchester Prep, in the role of Kathryn Merteuil. The series did not live up to the network's expectations and following numerous script revisions and two production shutdowns, it was canceled. The filmed episodes were then re-edited to be released as the direct-to-video film, Cruel Intentions 2.

From 2000 to 2002, Adams appeared in a series of small films like Psycho Beach Party while guest-starring on television series such as Charmed, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Smallville and The West Wing. She then appeared in Steven Spielberg's Catch Me if You Can as Brenda Strong, a role that was "supposed to be [her] big break" but she "was unemployed for a year after that". However, Adams stated that it "was the first time [she] knew [she] could act at that level with those people. To be believed in by Steven Spielberg... it was a huge confidence booster". She starred in The Last Run in 2004 as well as voicing characters on animated television series King of the Hill. In the same year, she was cast in the television series, Dr. Vegas, in the role of Alice Doherty but was later fired after a contract dispute.

2005–2007

Right after she left Dr. Vegas, she received the script for Junebug, a low-budget independent film, and auditioned for the role of Ashley Johnsten on the following day. Director Phil Morrison decided to cast Adams as the innocent and talkative Ashley after "[l]ots of people looked at Ashley and thought, 'What's the sorrow she's masking?'" and the fact that Adams "didn't approach it from the angle of 'What's she covering up?' was key."The film was shot in 21 days in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and premiered at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival, where she won the Special Jury Prize for her performance. After the theatrical release of The Wedding Date, in which Adams appeared alongside Debra Messing and Dermot Mulroney, Junebug was released in theaters by Sony Pictures Classics. Adams received further numerous critical accolades and awards for her performance in Junebug, including the National Society of Film Critics award for Best Supporting Actress and the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female. She was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress - Motion Picture at the 12th Screen Actors Guild Awards and Best Supporting Actress at the 78th Academy Awards. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences invited Adams to become a member in 2006.

Although Junebug had a limited audience, Adams' critically-acclaimed performance in the film helped to increase interest in her acting career. Adams went on to appear in films like Standing Still and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, and played the recurring guest role of Katy on the television series The Office. After providing the voice for Polly Purebred in Walt Disney Pictures' Underdog, Adams starred in Disney's 2007 big-budget animated/live-action feature film, Enchanted. The film, which co-stars Patrick Dempsey, Idina Menzel, Susan Sarandon, and James Marsden, revolves around Giselle, who is forced from her 2D-animated world to real-life New York City. Adams was amongst 300 or so actresses who auditioned for the role of Giselle, but she stood out to director Kevin Lima because her "commitment to the character, her ability to escape into the character's being without ever judging the character was overwhelming". Enchanted was both a commercial and critical success, with critics calling it a star-making vehicle for Adams the way Mary Poppins was for Julie Andrews. For her performance, Adams received a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actress - Motion Picture Musical or Comedy and a Critics' Choice Award nomination for Best Actress. At the 2008 Saturn Awards she won the Best Actress award for her role in Enchanted. Three of the film's songs were nominated for Best Original Song at the 80th Academy Awards. After Enchanted, Adams appeared in Charlie Wilson's War as the title character's administrative assistant, which saw her co-starring with Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

2008–present

The success of Enchanted increased Adams' media exposure during the 2007/2008 film awards season. At the 80th Academy Awards ceremony, she presented the award for Best Original Score and performed "Happy Working Song", one of the nominated songs from Enchanted, live on stage. "That's How You Know", originally performed by Adams in the film, was sung by Kristin Chenoweth at the ceremony. In an interview, Adams remarked that it was "perfect" for Chenoweth to perform the song since Chenoweth "was a huge inspiration for how [she] approached Giselle". As well as appearing on the covers of Interview, Elle and the Hollywood issue of Vanity Fair, which named her as one of the "10 fresh faces of 2008", Adams hosted the seventh episode of the 33rd season of Saturday Night Live in March 2008. In the episode, she played various characters, including Heidi Klum as well as singing "What is This Feeling?" from Wicked in a mock battle with SNL cast member Kristen Wiig during the opening monologue.

Adams starred in three films in 2008: Sunshine Cleaning, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day and Doubt. In Sunshine Cleaning, an independent film that was shot in and around Albuquerque, New Mexico from February to March in 2007, Adams plays a single mother who starts her own crime scene clean-up business in order to make enough money to send her son to a private school. The film premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival as one of the most anticipated titles but received somewhat mixed reviews and wasn't sold to a distributor as quickly as expected. In Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, a 1939-set film, Adams plays Delysia Lafosse, an aspiring American actress living in London whose life is changed after meeting a governess named Miss Pettigrew, played by Frances McDormand. The film received generally favorable reviews, with critics praising the performances of Adams and McDormand. Adams' role was noted to be similar to her joyful and naïve characters in Junebug and Enchanted; Carina Chocano of Los Angeles Times stated that "Adams is amazingly adept at playing smart playing dumb", while Kirk Honeycutt wrote that "Adams more or less reprises her princess from 'Enchanted,' only with a beguiling touch of ditzy naughtiness". When asked whether she is in danger of being typecast, Adams said, "Not at this point... Right now I'm just doing what I enjoy and I've done some different films, I've done some different types of roles. I've done drama this year, we had a film at Sundance ('Sunshine Cleaning'), but I enjoy playing upbeat characters, I really do because you take your characters home with you whether you intend to or not."In another interview, Adams said, "I think I just respond to those kinds of characters... They're so layered, and I love the fact that they've made this choice to be joyful... I really identify with that sense of hope."In Doubt, an adaptation of John Patrick Shanley's play of the same name, Adams stars as Sister James alongside Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Viola Davis.

Following Doubt, Adams will appear in Julie & Julia with Streep, which is set to be released in 2009, as a frustrated temp secretary Julie Powell, who decides to cook all of the recipes in Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking. She will then portray Amelia Earhart in Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian and will co-star with Mark Ruffalo in the upcoming Noah Baumbach movie Greenburg. It has also been confimed that she was offered the role of Meryl in Metal Gear Solid.
