Does the osx version of itunes support non-ipod mp3 players? (namely the creative nomad jukebox zen xtra) I had an ipod (3rd gen) but was unsatisfied with the sound quality.
Also, do you guys think the the 20" imac is worth the $200 or so jump in price from the 17" imac? I know the resolution isn't much higher, but how much better is the screen? I'm used to a 19" LCD right now.. Is the 20" lcd used in the g5 imacs the same one used in the 20" cinema displays? What about the 17" display, is the one used on the 17" powerbooks?

I've never really owned a great point and shoot camera for the simple reason that I know I'd never really carry it around with me to use it. I have used a lot of cell phone cameras though, and I will say the ip4 camera is the best that I've used. I have no issues with the photos that I take looking messed up, but that could be because I have no awesome camera to compare it against. I would think that for 90% of the picture taking that most would do, it would be just fine. Even if not, it's worth the tradeoff of not Having to Carry around a Point and shoot camera wherever you go. I will say the camera is a big selling point for me and cell phones though. It's one of the main reasons I haven't went to android yet. The iPhone cameras seem to work ally better. Here are some photos I've snapped with a range of lighting conditions.

YESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
E-PL1 support finally. :D
Agreed. I've been using the "Olympus Master 2" software with my E-PL1's RAW files and it's ssssslllllooooowwwww (like 20s to display a pic in 1:1 resolution). Wondering if iPhoto's RAW handling is significantly faster than the Olympus s/w.
Been holding off on upgrading from iPhoto '08 -> '09 in the hopes that '10 will come out soon....................soon?

If it does have a Beta of Mac OS X it would be of Jaguar, 10.2. But I think that it is very unlikely that an OS would stay intact on a computer that of this vintage, if it even has a hard drive.

i am finding that Safari 5.1 is almost unusable on Lion. It drops all internet connections and i have to use network preferences to reboot if you will just to get it use my wifi everytime.
the bookmark bar doesn't work and on and on. im using chrome and its fast as heck on lion. too many bugs to use lion for everyday right now...
That has nothing to do with Safari, it's the Wi-Fi changes Apple made in Lion (issue that will be fixed eventually).
What do you mean the bookmark bar doesn't work?
i have the latest developer build of chrome and the latest build of firefox as well and they both work perfectly for me on lion...
I'm using Chrome on Lion, just sucks that the new scrollbars and full screen options aren't there yet.

That's actually the 'Batmobile' Newton. One of three prototype versions that were superseded to market by the 4th and final version. You can see the three here (with a link to a flickr page showing more pics of the Batmobile version):
http://www.cultofmac.com/bic-cadillac-and-batmobile-three-newton-prototypes/26708
This ebay one is missing the bit that actually refers to its name, the batmobile type snap-on cover. Still rare, but without the cover... I dunno. A few were actually made for a TV show in a limited production run (like the Powerbook in Independence Day), something Apple did a bit of back then.

Hi
I'm new in Mac and HDSLR editing, but very interest to work with HD edit.
So decided to purchase a PC or iMac/MacBookPro for mainly HDSLR (h.246) and Lightroom/PS/Apetuare photo editing.
My question is will the NEW iMac
-2.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
-AMD Radeon HD 6770M with 512MB
Fast enought for the above mention work ?
Kinda budget, so MacBookPro is my 2nd option.
or MacBookPro
2.0GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
Intel HD Graphics 3000
AMD Radeon HD 6490M with 256MB GDDR5
Which to go ?
Btw HD 6770M with 512MB / HD 6490M with 256MB GDDR5
or last (AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 1GB )

I'm not allowed to swear here, or else I would!
Do we really need anymore sensationalist titles to Apple related 'issues'? I've had enough between alleged iPhone and iTunes Store problems in the past week.
People, take a chill pill before heading up posts! At least before the bozos in the media get ahold of more gubbins!

Why the hell are schools buying ipads? No wonder my property taxes are through the roof!
Because they are cheaper, more functional, lighter, more secure and easier to distribute information, than a traditional dell laptop most schools would carry

Is a powermac g4 a good mac starter computer?
I think so, however, it depends on what you're using it for.

Inactive memory
This information in memory is not actively being used, but was recently used.
For example, if you've been using Mail and then quit it, the RAM that Mail was using is marked as Inactive memory. This Inactive memory is available for use by another application, just like Free memory. However, if you open Mail before its Inactive memory is used by a different application, Mail will open quicker because its Inactive memory is converted to Active memory, instead of loading Mail from the slower hard disk.
from Mac OS X: Reading system memory usage in Activity Monitor (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1342)
In other words: Your Mac is fine.

I'd appreciate any links to distributed computing forums, not of the folding @ home type but for closed, professional grid-based computing. It'd be good to read up on what other people are doing in respect of this these days.

Just in case anybody is interested...
I made a simple CoreImage test app to try and get to grips with CoreImage. It's not very advanced but it can do a number of effects and is fun to play with.
I need somebody to host it for the moment because I'm away from my webserver so if anybody can do that then it will be available for download.
Requires a CoreImage compatible graphics card that is Quartz2DExtreme capable. Works nice and smoothly on my 17" Powerbook (Most recent gen).

Tell your friend he's right. Then tell him he should stick with windows. Then tell him to post a blog entry somewhere everytime his anti-virus/anti-malware tells him it found something. Then tell him you'll do the same. The one with the most posts at the end of the year give's the other one $1000.00.
See if he knows the odds of him winning.
Enjoy

I need an ATI PCI Video card that'll work with my PowerMac G3 B&W. I'm currently using an old PCI card from my old PowerMac 9600 so if I could replace it in time for christmas (I'm giving the computer away as a gift to my Grandma) then that would be fantastic.
I see some going on eBay so if I can't find one here I'll purchase one on there. I can pay via PayPal, or if you really want maybe we can trade somehting. Thanks! :)
I have a hadware modded (replaced with 128K ROM) radeon 7000 64MB card. I should have it on one of my old G3s. For 50$ + 5$(priority mail shipping?)

Gotcha. So I think the best way to handle this would be to use Apache to handle all requests for both servers, and set up a ReverseProxy to handle traffic that should go to the Ruby server.
Check this site out: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/vhosts/examples.html
And this site for ReverseProxy: http://www.ehow.com/how_6108865_configure-apache-reverse-proxy.html
So, your config file in Apache should similar to this (be sure to enable the proxy module):
Listen 172.20.30.40:80
# This is the "main" server running on 172.20.30.40
ServerName server.domain.com
DocumentRoot /www/mainserver
# This is the other address - the one handling requests for Ruby
NameVirtualHost 172.20.30.50:80
<VirtualHost 172.20.30.50:80>
# Other directives here ...
ProxyRequests off
ProxyPass / http://localhost:8080
ProxyPassReverse / http://localhost:8080
</VirtualHost>
Then obviously you need to ensure your DNS server is set so the domain names are pointing to ther right IP addresses.
You could also filter out on the ServerName in apache to determine which server handles your traffic...or do both to be consistent.
